FAQ

Can Winfrey Design Build construct a new home on a lot I already own?
We can build on your lot or purchase an available lot, whichever better suits you. We will council with you on lot size, setbacks, building restrictions and codes, and architectural guidelines prior to the start of the design process.

What is the first step after choosing a lot?
We meet with your architect, or one of several that we have a working relationship with should you not have one, and begin to put your thoughts and ideas on paper. A sketch eventually evolves into a scaled floor plan of your custom home.

How can I see the finished quality of a Winfrey Design Build home?
Bruce lives in a beautiful home that he built several years ago, which is always a good starting point. We also usually have other projects underway at different stages of completion that you may visit; many of our homeowners welcome the opportunity to show their home by appointment.

What about insurance during the construction process?
Winfrey Design Build always carries full general liability and builders risk insurance on every home we build. We also insist that our subcontractors carry their own liability insurance, and we have systems in place to monitor this.

Will the price of the home go up if material or labor goes up?
NO! We don’t start until we have a contract agreement in place, and the price we agree on is the price of completing your custom home, guaranteed.

How do I know what the next step is during the construction of my home?
Every Winfrey Design Build customer is given their own log-in account for our custom web-based homeowner portal, which provides a real-time calendar of the current project timeline in addition to acting as a communication hub between you and your project manager regarding changes, questions, and job status updates.
(Take the tour and see it in action.)

What about construction inspections?
Winfrey Design Build has a third-party inspector on every new home that provides you with an impartial report at the foundation, framing, and final stages of construction in addition to the typical permit inspections required by most municipalities. These reports are shared with you to keep you informed of the quality of construction.

Does Winfrey Design Build provide a new home warranty?
YES! We provide a one-year warranty on latent defects in workmanship and material, a two-year warranty on the mechanical equipment, a manufacturer’s warranty of varying lengths on equipment, and a ten-year structural warranty, all of which are defined and discussed during the construction process and final walk-through.
